Privacy policy
This policy covers adamcrum.com, adamcrum.com, and any other page the campaign runs under the adamcrum.com name. “We” and “the campaign” mean Adam Crum for Governor, the candidate committee registered with the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
What we collect
What you give us. Nothing here requires you to identify yourself. You can read every page on this site without telling us anything. We collect information when you hand it over:
- Your email address, when you sign up for campaign updates.
- Your name, email address, and cell number, when you fill out the Join the Team form. The cell number is optional.
- Your name and mailing address, when you ask for a yard sign or RSVP to an event.
- What the law requires of donors when you give money: name, address, occupation, and employer. Your card number goes to WinRed, the payment processor. It never reaches us, and we could not see it if we wanted to.
What arrives on its own. Two kinds.
Ordinary server records: the page you asked for, roughly where in the world the request came from, the browser you used, and the site that sent you. Every web server keeps these.
Where the signup came from: our email forms carry hidden fields recording which page you signed up on, which page you first landed on, and, if you arrived from an ad, which ad. That is stored with your email address. We use it so that someone who signed up after reading about electricity prices gets the piece about electricity prices instead of a generic welcome note. We spell this out because most campaigns do it and few mention it.
How we use it
- Send you what you signed up for
- Decide which emails you get, based on what you were reading when you signed up
- Thank you for a donation and report it as Alaska law requires
- Tell you about events near you
- Ask you to vote, volunteer, put up a sign, or give
- Measure whether our advertising is working
We do not sell your information. We do not rent, trade, or exchange our email or text list with other campaigns, committees, or vendors.
Text messages
If you give us your cell number, you are agreeing to receive text messages from Adam Crum for Governor, including automated messages and including asks for money. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any message to stop them. Reply HELP for help.
We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose mobile phone numbers or text-message consent to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Your number is used for this campaign’s own messages, handled by the vendor that sends them, and by nobody else.
Giving us your number is optional. You can join the email list, give, volunteer, and vote without it.
Who else touches your information
The campaign runs on outside services. When you use the part of the site a service powers, your information goes to it:
Each of those companies has its own privacy policy, and what it does with your information is governed by that policy rather than this one.
We also hand over information when the law requires it, which is the next section, and if we ever had to in order to protect someone’s safety or the campaign’s legal rights.
Donations become public records
Alaska law requires campaigns to report contributions to the Alaska Public Offices Commission. The reports include each donor’s name and address, and for anyone who gives more than $50 in a year, occupation and employer. APOC publishes them. Anyone can search them.
That is the law, not a choice we made, and it binds every campaign in the state. It also means a contribution cannot later be taken back out of the public record. Better to know that before you give than after.
Corporations and unions cannot contribute to an Alaska candidate. Neither can foreign nationals, under federal law.
Cookies, and what tracks you here
Wix, which hosts adamcrum.com, sets cookies that keep the site working and count visits. Both sites load a typeface from Google Fonts, which tells Google that a browser asked for it.
We do not currently run Google Analytics or an advertising pixel on either site. The campaign does advertise on Facebook, Instagram, and Google. If we add measurement for that advertising, it will be the standard tools those platforms provide, which means the platform, not the campaign, sets a cookie in your browser and matches it to its own record of you. We will change the date at the top of this page when that happens.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and you can limit ad targeting in the ad settings of Facebook and Google. Neither will stop you using this site.
We do not respond to Do Not Track browser signals, because there is still no agreed standard for what a site should do when it receives one.
Keeping it, and getting rid of it
We keep what you gave us while the campaign is running and you have not asked us to stop. Every email has an unsubscribe link. It works, it takes one click, and you do not have to explain yourself.
To find out what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, write to us at the address below and say what you want done. The one thing we cannot undo is a contribution already reported to APOC. That record belongs to the state.
We protect what we hold with reasonable safeguards, and the sensitive part of it, payment information, sits with vendors built for it rather than with us. Nobody honest promises a website can never be breached, and we are not going to.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we change the date at the top. If a change is substantive (a new use of your information, rather than a new vendor doing the same job), we will say so to the email list.
